The theme of the story in LOVE between Poor and Rich. The story revolves around four important characters : a) Prabhu (PRABHU DEVA) - College student, brother of constable called Kaainath. b) Shruti (NAGMA) - Bharatnatyam dancer, daughter of Ranjit Singh. c) Vasanth - College student, friend of Prabhu. d) Badrinath - Ranjit Singh's henchman. The college student's chairman Prabhu one day visits Ranjit Singh's (GIRISH KARNAD) bunglow to invite him for a college function. In his bunglow, Prabhu happens to meet Ranjit Singh's daughter Shruti, unforscely Both fall in love with each other. In due course both become deep lovers, but is not acceptable to Ranjit Singh. So he troubles and separates them. Finally, Ranjit Singh's henchman Badrinath kills Ranjit Singh due to their misunderstanding. With Ranjit Singh's death lovers Prabhu and Shruti get together for their happy married life.
