The Indian belief that birth, death and marriage are decided in the heaven is
challenged one night in Rampur, when a woman abused by her husband curses the
Goddess Bhagwati for not creating a true husband and commits suicide in
Goddess's divine river. To remove the curse from the Goddess, the husband offers
a young girl to the Goddess however the girl elopes with her new husband, the
local temple drummer. This causes village uproar - "Hanan!" "An assault on
faith!" shout the Mahapujari of the temple, but during their flight the Goddess
possesses the girl. However her new, miraculous powers are not necessarily good
for the couple and soon both are forced to make life-changing decisions to
restore the Goddess Bhagwati's faith and lift the curse. |
