Four elephants save Raju (Rajesh Khanna), the only son of wealthy parents, when a leopard attacks him. When his family strikes bad times, Raju's only assets are his friends - the elephants. Raju meets and falls in love with Tanu (Tanuja) but her father is against their love when he learns about Raju's poor financial background. But Tanu gets married to Raju against her father's wishes and soon gives birth to a baby boy. The elephants and the boy become very friendly but Tanu doesn't like as she feels that the elephants will kill her son and so the clash between Raju and Tanu begins and they separate for this reason. But the elephants help them to re-unite again in the knot of love.
