Kusum (Jaya Bhaduri), a movie-mad teenager adores a superstar (Dharmendra,
playing himself). She dreams of him all the time, to the exasperation of her
family. Finally they decide that the only way to cure her is to let her take a
look at the hard realities of filmmaking. How her eyes are opened to the truth
and how she falls in love with the man her family would like her to marry makes
up the plot of this charming love-story.
Director Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s genius finds expression in this breezy romance,
which was Jaya Bhaduri’s debut film. The film also has Utpal Dutt in a
supporting role and special appearances by Ashok Kumar, Rajesh Khanna, Pran and
Om Prakash. Music director Vasant Desai’s melodious tunes include ‘Humko Man Ki
Shakti Dena’ and ‘Bole Re Papi Hara’. Lyrics and story are by Gulzar.
