This is a story of Gangaa (Amitabh Bachchan), Jamuna (Meenakshi) and Saraswathi (Jaya Pradha). Gangaa & Jamuna fall in love and vow to spend the rest of their lives together. Saraswathi silently loves Gangaa and dedicates her life to him. Hansraj (Amrish Puri) as well as many others, want to separate the two lovers and succeed in his plot. Gangaa & Jamuna are torn apart. Shanker (Mithun) in love with Jamuna saves her from the river, as she is found having lost her memory. Gangaa having lost all hope of finding Jamuna takes Saraswathi as his bride.
