Raja’s (Aamir Khan) penny-pinching dad Hazari Prasad (Anupam Kher) wants Raja to marry a rich girl. He pretends to be a rich industrialist and persuades a millionaire, Mehta (Saeed Jaffrey) to allow his daughter Madhu (Madhuri Dixit) to marry Raja. Madhu and Raja are classmates in college and they hate the sight of each other. Gradually, they fall in love but when Mehta discovers that Hazari Prasad is not a business tycoon, he creates chaos in Madhu’s and Raja’s life.

This superhit film, directed by debutant Indra Kumar has a great soundtrack from Anand – Milind. The chartbusting song ‘Aaj Na Chodenge’ was shot as an afterthought and when Aamir, who’s always been diffident about his dancing, allegedly baulked at being pitted against Madhuri. Better sense prevailed and the rest as they say, is history!
