Thakur Maharaj Singh (Shammi Kapoor) was a man feared by all and his whole
life centred round his horses, his young son Chimpu and his wife Rukmini (Indrani
Mukherjee). Man Singh (Madan Puri) and his gang of poachers once raid Thakur's
farm to steal some of his prize horses, but Man Singh's young son gets killed by
the unerring bullet from Thakur's gun. The poachers flee to their hide out,
vowing to take revenge for the killing. Chimpu gets kidnapped on his third
birthday and Thakur in a rage blames the servant Ram Singh (Ramesh Deo) and
throws him out of house. All efforts to trace the child go in vain but the
parents continue to live in hope that one day they will get back their lost son.
One day Ram Singh comes across Badal (Amitabh Bachchan), a terrific rider and
brings him to Thakur's house as the long lost Chimpu. The family easily accepts
Badal blessed with all the qualities that Thakur expected his son to have. But
just when Badal and Ram Singh think they'll be successful in their coup, a
dramatic twist of fate occurs. Is Badal's real identity revealed? Is Man Singh
able to take his revenge? Is the real Chimpu found? Ravi Chopra's directorial
debut Zameer unveils this drama.
Zameer was the only film in which the then superstar Amitabh Bachchan worked
with the legendary B.R.Chopra. The movie had the hit combination of those times
- Amitabh Bachchan & Vinod Khanna, with other greats like Shammi Kapoor, Saira
Banu and Madan Puri in the cast. Sapan Chakravarty, an assistant to R.D.Burman
composed Sahir's soulful lyrics, giving hit songs like Zindagi Hansne Gaane Ke
Liye and Tum Bhi Chalo Hum Bhi Chalein.
