Raj Singh Puri (Jackie Shroff) has three daughters - Avantika, Sanya and Isha (Kareena Kapoor). Lalit (Anang Desai) is a rich businessman and Raj's friend. Lalit's son Ronit (Hrithik Roshan) is very close to Raj and his family. When Raj's wife Shalini (Rati Agnihotri) dies after an accident, he has to take on the mantle of being a parent as well as a friend to his daughters. He arranges for Avantika's marriage into a well-adjusted cultured family. Sanya, however, wants to marry her boyfriend. Raj disapproves of her boyfriend's avaricious family. She coerces her father and gets her way but soon returns to her father's house, unable to bear her in-laws' ill-treatment. Ronit and Isha discover their love for each other. Raj is disillusioned with the concept of love and declares that he will arrange Isha's marriage. Isha, in deference to her father's wishes, decides to sacrifice her love for Ronit.....
