Rishi Kapoor and Sridevi fall in love with each other and get engaged despite the disapproval expressed by his parents. He then meets with an accident that leaves him paralysed from the waist below. He decides to sacrifice his love and asks her to leave him and make a life for herself.

Broken hearted, she moves to another city where she meets Vinod Khanna. He offers her a job in his travel agency and she starts putting her life back together. Vinod Khanna too has suffered a tragedy as he lost his love Juhi Chawla to a terminal illness.

He falls in love with Sridevi, proposes to her and she agrees to marry him. Meanwhile, Rishi undergoes treatment and gets back onto his feet. He searches for Sridevi and lands up at her doorstep just after she agrees to marry Vinod Khanna. The climax revolves around the man she finally decides to marry and why.
