Rupa (Zeenat Aman) is a village outcast who is shunned by one and all for
being unlucky, because she burnt her face on one side due to an unfortunate
accident. Despite this Rupa awakens everyday before dawn and prays at the temple
singing devotional songs to bring the devites to the temple.
One day a newly appointed engineer Rajeev (Shashi Kapoor) hears Rupa singing. He
is besotted by Rupa's melodious voice and does not see her burnt face on one
side, which Rupa always masked with her veil.
Rajeev asks for Rupa's hand in marriage. It is only when the two are married
that he realises the truth. Not willing to accept the truth he walks out on Rupa
in search of his fantasy.
A chain of events bring together Rupa and Rajeev, as he realises that real
beauty is internal which is even more beautiful than fantasy.
A film about a man's obsession with outer beauty, who refuses to accept what is
beneath.
