Writer-Director Madhur Bhandarkar's Chandni Bar gave the Indian audience a sneak
peak into the uptil now unheard agonizing personal and social life of beer-bar
dancers. Post Chandni Bar Bhandarkar wanted to make a film that is a raw
portrayal of our very own world of politics on the marquee. So, he came up with
Satta- The game of power that has Raveena Tandon, newcomer Sameer Dharmadhikari,
Atul Kulkarni and Govind Namdeo in key roles.
Satta is a gut-wrenching story of Anuradha (Raveena Tandon) a middle-class
ambitious woman who marries a handsome, rich and savvy Vivek Chauhan (Sameer
Dharmadhikari) with a political background. Vivek's reckless attitude confines
Anuradha within the frontiers of her house and her duties as a wife. But, fate
coerces her to take a plunge inot politics where the rule of the game is 'the
fittest survives' and there's no one who could be trusted.
Inspite of sinking and loosing herself she bounces back with a venegance. She
combats the challenges that life throws at her. By taking a lead into the
political system she ultimately succeeds in mopping the dirt that encompasses
her. Vivek Chauhan (Sameer Dharmadhikari) a spoilt brat born with a silver
spoon. This fearless man has his own dangerous ways of acquiring the impossible.
He has inherited politics from his father Mahendra Chauhan.
Mahendra Chauhan (Vallabh Vyas) to him power brings insecurity, as he is afraid
of losing it. To make sure that the power remains within the family he passes
this political heritage to his son Vivek.
Yashwant Vardhe (Atul Kulkarni) a desprate man seeking power. And to materialise
his ruthless ambitions he can go to any depth.
Liyaquat Ali Beg (Govind Namdeo) a corrupt man thirsty for power and in his
thirst he has left behind a bloody trail for others. But he later finds himself
trapped in his own web.
Madhur's previous venture Chandni Bar was minus songs but unlike that one Satta
has musical score by Raju Singh. Javed Akhtar the profound lyricist has penned
the songs. After modelling for countless television commercials Sameer
Dharmadhikari makes his entry inot Bollywood with Satta. Raveena plays the
central character and this performance of hers is being claimed as the most
daring role of her career.
