Sarkar (for sar-e-kar) - Chief, master, lord; a respectful title (given to a
person absent or present), your Honour, your Worship, his Honour. The movie
brings the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan together in
the same film. The two are all set to play reel life father and son. Apart from
the official union of the father-son jodi, Sarkar also brings Big B and the
ground-breaking Ram Gopal Varma together. This movie doesn’t have any similarity
with Sarkar (1951) except for the name, but Varma’s next directorial, Sarkar, is
definitely inspired by The Godfather, one of the most exceptional movies of
Hollywood.
"The only thing is... my film 'Sarkar' is no longer 'The Godfather', not
really... The entire script has been changed. And apart from the two Bachchans,
Amitabh and Abhishek, I've decided to cast new non-star faces from theatre,"
explained Varma. He also revealed that Sarkar is about a family in a powerful
position and a man who does things outside the law. He lives life according to
own certainty and nevertheless has a sense of right and wrong. The main issue
that is portrayed in Sarkar is that of the complexities of family and politics
on a high level. Amitabh Bachchan will be playing the role of Marlon Brando.
“Please don't compare my father with Brando. It belittles both the actors who
are big in their own fields. Even if my father plays 'The Godfather', he'll do
so in his own way,” says Abhishek Bachchan
