This is the story of a typical Indian joint family, which faces the ups
and downs of life. Devi Dayal (Anupam kher) and his wile Godavari (Seema Deo) spend
a
major portion of their resources on their elder son Vijays (Rai Babbar)
education. He starts earning a salary of Rs 1,125 per month but it is not
sufficient to cater to the needs of the entire family comprising two sons Shiva (Ajankya Deo)
and Vidya Sagar (Hari); one daughter Rajini (Archana Joglekar); two
daughters in-law Uma (Rekha and Basanthi (Priyanka). Shiva takes up a job of a
motor mechanic on a salary of Rss. 515 p.m. Rajini gets married to a Christian
boy, much against the wishes of her family members. When Vijay's wife, Uma, goes
to her brother's place for her first delivery, he reduces his contribution to
the family expenses to half. There is a clash between Devi Dayal and Vijay,
which leads to the division of the house Nobody welcomes Uma's new born baby or
talks to her. Being the architect of unity, the symbol of love and affection,
she starts her crusade for reuniting the family. Was she able to do this? Did
Vijay
rectify his narrow mindedness? All this can be seen in the unforgettable family
